About Pocket Wilds

Hi, I’m Miko, the person behind Pocket Wilds!

I was born in 1995 and have lived here in Annitsford my whole life. Over the years, I’ve watched both this street and the wider Annitsford and Dudley area grow and change - mostly for the better - but I’ve also noticed two things that have faded over time: our love for nature and our community spirit.

So, in 2025, I decided to do something about it! That’s how Pocket Wilds was born - my small side business selling UK-native plants, fruits, and vegetables. My goal is to help bring nature back into local gardens, support our struggling wildlife, and foster a stronger community connection.

Why "Pocket Wilds"?

The name has a double meaning! I specialize in native plants - many of which could be considered wildflowers, and I sometimes carry plants in my pockets when delivering orders to your door. Plus, my selection is suited for even the smallest gardens, helping everyone create a "pocket" of "wilds" at home.

A growing dream

I dream of one day seeing a native flower in every garden in our area, providing essential food and shelter for pollinators. Another big aspiration? Starting an annual local market street to support other small businesses and help our community thrive, maybe even a community food patch!

By supporting local, we can help wildlife, cut costs, and build stronger bonds with our neighbours - bringing a little joy and nature back into our lives in a world that often feels far too disconnected.

I've always been passionate about nature too, from rescuing animals to volunteering as a bird-ringer with the BTO, and now seem to have settled on helping from a botany focus - getting right to the root of modern problems!

Life's work

I've not had the easiest ride in this roller coaster we call life, I suppose no-one has really, but all of it has taught me that I really need to follow my passion. Throughout life, I've flitted between education, part time work, full time work, volunteering, and caring for elderly relatives, and despite it all I've struggled to find what I loved doing, or so I thought. I've worked in telecommunications, finances, reception duties, managerial duties, dipped my toe into running a business through artwork and costume creation for amateur dramatic groups, studied business, and so much more! I feel the collective experience and education I've accumulated has really set me up to stick to this and make it work, and in a strange way, plants have just always been there for me; they are what I love - Pocket Wilds really is my life's work! After all, I've been caring for nature and plants since I could pick up a trowel!

Who you'll meet

Pocket Wilds is a small, home-based venture, so I don’t have a physical shop. When you place an order, you’ll see either myself, my mum Jean, or my partner Leo when we deliver your plants. You might also see our dog Chewie or catch us at local car boot sales and organizing charity events, feel free to say hi if you see us out and about - hope to see you soon!
