Anthyllis vulnerariaA low-growing perennial with clusters of bright yellow, pincushion-like flower heads atop slender stems. Thrives in full sun on well-drained, sandy or rocky soils—perfect for sunny rockeries, meadow gardens, or border fronts. Pairs beautifully with Lotus corniculatus (Bird’s-foot Trefoil), Myosotis arvensis (Field Forget-me-not), and Leucanthemum vulgare (Common Daisy), all of which share its sun-loving habit and are pet-friendly. Traditionally known as “Kidney Vetch,” its roots were used in folk medicine to help heal wounds and ease skin irritations.

Care: Prefers sharply drained, sandy or gritty loam with low to moderate fertility. Water sparingly once established—this species is drought tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry spells. No regular fertilizer is needed; a light top-dressing of compost in spring can encourage fresh blooms. Ideal for in-ground planting or containers—choose a pot at least 8 inches deep with ample drainage.
Allergen Information: Low allergy risk—blooms June–August. Produces minimal pollen but attracts bees and other pollinators; individual sensitivities can vary and may develop over time.
Pet Safety Notice: “Pet Friendly” means this plant is generally considered safe to be touched, sniffed, or ingested by dogs, cats, and rabbits. No plant should be deliberately eaten in large quantities, as digestive upset may occur if it’s unfamiliar to the body. Individual allergies or sensitivities can develop, so Pocket Wilds always suggests supervision when introducing new plants to curious hands, paws, or mouths.
