Anthyllis vulneraria
A low, sun‑loving perennial with soft, woolly flower heads in cheery yellow or orange that bloom continually from June to September. Looks lovely paired with bird’s‑foot trefoil or wild thyme in a warm, open patch. This is a short-lived plant, only surviving for 1-3 years; however, it will neatly self-seed around where its parent plant is, providing new plants for many years to come.

Care: Prefers well‑drained sandy or chalky soil and thrives in dry meadows, coastal edges, and rock gardens, but can do well in just about anywhere - even loam or heavy clay, though with heavy clay we recommend digging a bit wider than the pot and improving the area with a grit and sandy soil mix during planting. Water during its first year, then only in prolonged drought. Avoid rich or heavily fertilised soil, which reduces flowering. Deadhead lightly to prolong blooms or leave seedheads for wildlife.
Fun Fact: Kidney vetch is the sole larval food plant of the UK’s small blue butterfly, making it a powerful addition to wildlife‑friendly gardens - leave the seed heads and spent flowers to support our smallest butterfly!
