Alchemilla vulgaris

Lady’s Mantle is a charming UK‑native perennial with soft, scalloped leaves that catch and hold morning dew like tiny silver beads. In early summer, it produces airy sprays of chartreuse‑yellow flowers that bring a gentle glow to borders, paths, and cottage‑style plantings. Its mounded shape and delicate texture make it a beautiful foil for bolder blooms. It pairs beautifully with Meadow Cranesbill and Primrose, both of which are also available in our store and are pet friendly.

🌿 Medium Pollen

🌿 Growth Habit: Clump‑forming perennial; spreads gently by seed

🌿 Medium foliage/flower; Height & Spread = 20–45 cm tall × 30–50 cm wide

🌿 Wildlife Value: Provides nectar for bees and hoverflies; leaves offer shelter for small insects.

Care: Lady’s Mantle thrives in moist, well-drained soil and tolerates a wide range of light levels, from full sun to full shade. It performs beautifully at the front of borders, along paths, and in naturalistic plantings. Water during prolonged dry spells, especially in its first year. Suitable for medium pots with a minimum depth and diameter of 20–25 cm. When planting in the ground, leave around 30–40 cm of space to allow its mounded form to develop. Cut back spent flower stems after blooming to encourage fresh foliage and reduce self‑seeding.

Allergen Information: Medium pollen. Flowers from June to August, with pollen levels highest in early summer. Individual sensitivities can vary and may develop over time. Pocket Wilds accepts no responsibility for any allergic reaction.

Pet Safety Notice: “Pet Friendly” means this plant is generally considered safe to be touched, sniffed, or lightly ingested by dogs and cats; however, no plant should be deliberately eaten in large quantities, as digestive upset may occur if it’s unfamiliar to the body. Individual allergies or sensitivities can also develop at any time, so Pocket Wilds always suggests supervision when introducing new plants to curious hands, paws, or mouths.

Fun Fact: In folklore, dew collected from Lady’s Mantle leaves was believed to have magical healing properties and was used in early alchemy — inspiring the plant’s Latin name, Alchemilla.
