Geranium pratense

Meadow Cranesbill is a show‑stopping UK‑native perennial with large, saucer‑shaped flowers in shades of violet‑blue that glow in summer sunlight. Its finely cut foliage and upright, bushy habit make it perfect for meadows, cottage gardens, and naturalistic borders. It pairs beautifully with Bloody Cranesbill and Musk Mallow, both of which are also available in our store and are pet friendly.

🌿 Pet Friendly

🌿 Medium Pollen

🌿 Growth Habit: Clump‑forming perennial; spreads gently by seed

🌿 Medium flower; Height & Spread = 40–70 cm tall × 40–60 cm wide

🌿 Wildlife Value: Excellent for bees, hoverflies, and butterflies; provides nectar over a long summer season.

Care: Meadow Cranesbill thrives in moist, well-drained soil and prefers full sun, though it tolerates part sun. It performs beautifully in meadows, mixed borders, and wildlife‑friendly plantings. Water during prolonged dry spells in its first year. Suitable for medium to large pots with a minimum depth and diameter of 25–30 cm. When planting in the ground, leave around 40–50 cm of space to allow its clump to expand naturally. Cut back after the first flush of flowers to encourage fresh foliage and a possible second bloom.

Allergen Information: Medium pollen. Flowers from June to August, with pollen levels highest in midsummer. Individual sensitivities can vary and may develop over time. Pocket Wilds accepts no responsibility for any allergic reaction.

Pet Safety Notice: “Pet Friendly” means this plant is generally considered safe to be touched, sniffed, or lightly ingested by dogs and cats; however, no plant should be deliberately eaten in large quantities, as digestive upset may occur if it’s unfamiliar to the body. Individual allergies or sensitivities can also develop at any time, so Pocket Wilds always suggests supervision when introducing new plants to curious hands, paws, or mouths.

Fun Fact: The name “cranesbill” comes from the plant’s long, pointed seed pods, which resemble the beak of a crane. In folklore, they were thought to bring good luck when carried in a pocket.
