Malva moschataA charming perennial with soft, lobed leaves and clusters of pale pink, ruffled flowers atop slender stems. Thrives in full sun to part sun on well-draining soils—ideal for cottage borders, wildflower meadows, or informal beds where it pairs beautifully with Prunella vulgaris (Selfheal), Centaurea cyanus (Cornflower), and Thymus serpyllum (Wild Thyme)—all pet-friendly companions sharing its love of sunny, moderately fertile sites. Historically, Musk Mallow’s flowers were crystallized in sugar and used to scent rooms.

Care: Prefers rich, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Water moderately—keep soil evenly moist during dry spells but avoid waterlogging. Apply a balanced organic fertilizer in spring to promote strong growth and flowering. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering. Ideal for in-ground planting; in containers, choose a pot at least 8 inches deep with good drainage and regular moisture.
Allergen Information: Low allergy risk—blooms June–September. Produces minimal pollen but attracts bees and butterflies; individual sensitivities may vary and can develop over time.
Pet Safety Notice: “Pet Friendly” means this plant is generally considered safe to be touched, sniffed, or ingested by dogs, cats, and rabbits. No plant should be deliberately eaten in large quantities, as digestive upset may occur if it’s unfamiliar to the body. Individual allergies or sensitivities can develop, so Pocket Wilds always suggests supervision when introducing new plants to curious hands, paws, or mouths.
* Edible Parts & Preparation: Young leaves and flowers—harvest fresh and use sparingly in salads or as a garnish. Flowers can be crystallized for confections or steeped in hot water for a mild floral tea. Avoid overcooking to preserve delicate flavor.
